Turnback Cave is a small yet spacious rounded cavern that is empty, with stone pillars lining the wall. The Compound Eyes ability increases the chances of encountering a wild Pokemon with a held item. You’ll probably have to go through several Bronzors or Magnemite before you successfully steal a Metal Coat. Make sure the Pokemon that is using Thief isn’t holding anything already as it will not be able to hold onto the item it steals if it already has something on. You can steal the Metal Coat with the move Thief. Magnemite can be spotted in the Underground. Bronzor can be found in the Wayward Cave underneath Cycling Road on Route 206.
Both Pokemon have a 5% chance of holding a Metal Coat. You can get a Metal Coat beforehand through wild Bronzor and wild Magnemite. But you can only do that once you have your National Dex. One way to get Metal Coat is by talking to Bryon in his home on Iron Island.
